Rural market (off grid)
80% of the Cambodian population has no access to reliable grid electricity to power their daily needs. Many more people in today’s world live with the same conditions. Solar energy is a good and independent solution for rural families. The investment offers them many advantages over their existing solutions. Kerosene lighting, car-batteries and generators are still very common.
Besides the high energy costs of those alternatives does kerosene take many lives due to the constant fire treat in local houses. Health reports also show the long term risks of the daily fumes people and their children breathe in every night. Car-batteries are not designed for household use. This energy source requires regular visits to a battery charging station. Common charging methods also quickly run down the batteries.
Showcases
To increase awareness for solar energy we work together with Picosol. This Dutch NGO supports solar energy projects in several countries. Picosol asked us to find locations for installing solar energy systems. In good co-operation with the discrict and commu chiefs 20 locations were allocated. During the first months of 2010 Kamworks installed the systems and celebrate the openings. See news item about commune hall Preaek Rey.
