Kamworks has participated in a 1.5 year rental lantern pilot project that was coordinated by ProSeed. The lanterns were rented out to off-grid villagers that were paying the same amount of rent as what they would normally spend on buying kerosene for their oil lamps. A village entrepreneur would replace the battery of the lantern with a full one and collect the rent. Apart from some minor technical issues the project was evaluated and found to be successful: the village entrepreneurs rented out all their lanterns, the villagers liked the lantern service a lot and a rural (part time) job was created.
