Solar Battery Station
Although diesel generators are the most common way to generate electricity for the rural households, most of the families living in those areas cannot afford to buy one. Neither can they afford to buy a solar energy system. Therefore, the use of car batteries for covering their everyday needs seems like the most realistic option and that is why today more than 8000 charging stations are operational in rural Cambodia.

Most households in rural Cambodia use car batteries to supply their everyday energy needs. In general, these include lighting a couple of fluorescent bulbs and powering a DC-power television. Depending on the level of income and personal preference, batteries are also used for radios, karaoke systems, fans, etc. Families at the bottom level of the pyramid who cannot afford the cost of purchasing and recharging of a battery use kerosene lamps for lighting.
